The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Patrick Longe on Thursday met with a prominent custodian of a masquerade and an Islamic cleric in the state to ensure peace ahead of Egungun festival schedule for Friday.

Both the traditionalists, Kayode Esuleke and Imam Kazeem Yunus, leader of Kamarudeen society in Osogbo, clashed during the 2021 festival leading to the death of one person with several others sustaining various degrees of injury.

They were both detained at different times before they were released and the issue is still in court.

But in a statement issued by Police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola on Thursday, the CP said the parley was to ensure a crisis free festival in the state capital.

“The CP insisted that as the Egungun festival is scheduled to commence tomorrow (Friday), there must be no crisis between the two of you.

“We do not want a repeat of the crisis that occurred during the 2021 event. I will not condone anything that will cause the breach of peace in anyway”, it reads.

Meanwhile the statement added that the duo pledged to ensure that there would not be any problem before, during and after the festival.
