The West Asian country of Saudi Arabia is undertaking a major engineering marvel. The oil-rich country is building a zero-carbon city that will have vertical layers of buildings for work, living, farming and leisure stretching 170 kilometres into the horizon. Straight out of a fantasy novel, Crown Prince and de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman wants it completed by 2030.
NEOM will be a zero-carbon city in a 170-km line
The $500 billion project being built in northwest Saudi Arabia was announced by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in March, earlier this year. The city promises to be humanity’s next chapter and Crown Prince’s legacy.
The Mirror Line
The LINE will be only 200 meters wide, 170 kilometres long and 500 meters above sea level. It will eventually accommodate 9 million residents and will be built on a footprint of 34 square kilometers. Residents will also have access to all facilities in THE LINE within a five-minute walk, in addition to a high-speed rail with an end-to-end transit of 20 minutes.

TROJENA, a regional area of NEOM will be made up of six districts: Gateway, Discover, Valley, Explore, Relax and Fun. It will be located 50 kilometres from the Gulf of Aqaba coast in the heart of our nature region with elevations ranging from 1,500 metres to 2,600 metres and covering an area of nearly 60 square kilometres.
Vertical farming and pay for your meals
According to multiple reports, the residents of this ‘fantasy land’ will have to pay subscription for three meals a day. As the buildings are vertical, the farming will also be vertical on the shiny, mirror finished buildings.

The ‘Mirror Line’ will pass through the coastal desert, mountain and upper valley terrain of Saudi Arabia. Reportedly, An outer mirror facade will make the structure a distinctive part of the landscape.
