Zakat: Islamic organisation disburses N200m to students, needy

In its bid to fight poverty, an Islamic organisation under the aegis of Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, has disbursed over N200m to four  widows and youth selected from Palladian village and 10 students of Medicine of the  College of Health Sciences Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Speaking at the presentation of Zakat to the beneficiaries held at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology and Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, Kaduna state coordinator of the foundation, Mr Abdulwahab Abdulhakeem said the foundation has disbursed the said amount to the needy and vulnerable across the country.

He stated further that the zakat, as one of the 5 pillars of Islam, was aimed at fighting poverty among Muslims by sharing of wealth to the poor, such that wealth could go round amongst the faithful.

Mr added that his foundation has disbursed substantial amount to the poor and needy in the South- south and South-east and the entire North with the exception of Zamfara, Gombe and Kano states.

The coordinator noted that the zakat given to the widows and the youth was for them to establish businesses and have a better means of livelihood.
