Hijra is an Arabic word meaning migration. It is the migration of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his followers from Mecca to the city of Medina in 622CE. It marks the first year of the Islamic calendar.
Hijra is considered the most important event in Islamic history because it marks the formation of the first community of Muslims.
Muslims in Ifako-Ijaiye Local government area under Ifako-Ijaiye Muslim Community converged recently to celebrate the commencement of New Islamic Year and launches Hijrah 1443 calendar.
The event planned by the organizing committee of Ifako-Ijaiye Muslim community under its president, Alhaji Lateef Sunmonu also launched Hijrah Calendar for the year 1443.
In his remark at the event, the president, Alhaji Lateef Sunmonu advised all Muslims in the community to come together as one body.
“All Central Mosque in Ifako-Ijaiye, all Muslim society and associations in Ifako-Ijaiye Local government are under Ifako-Ijaiye Muslim Community. The government wants only one voice from each local government. Whoever has not joined should come and join. I am trying to tour the entire Central Mosque in this community to invite them to come and join us. I have also asked the Alfas to reach out in their different community and invite other Muslim to be part of this community.” Alhaji Sunmonu said.
He also thanks the organizing committee, the league of Imam and Alfas, the women wings and all members for their cooperation and perseverance.
Dignitaries at the event includes, Oba Elect of Iju Ogundimu, Jimoh Ogundimu as the royal father of the day. Alhaji Mutalib Orire Oyedeji, Baba Adinni of Ifako-Ijaiye & Ojokoro as the father of the day. Hon. James Adisa Owolabi, Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency, Lagos State. Chief Imam Ali Ismail Olayemi (Abayawo) Chairman Council of Imam, Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Yunus (Yalux) Chairman of the day and Alhaji Shuaib Atata, Chief Missioner.
