A renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Mohammed-Taofeek Akewugba-Gold has said that children with inadequate parental monitoring are vulnerable to extremism.
He noted that the issue of kidnapping for ransom, banditry and other forms of crime and criminalities will be a thing of the past if parents and guardians monitor and cater for their children.
Akewugba-Gold stated this while delivering Ramadan Lecture organized by Muslim Community of Bond 92.9 FM and National Broadcast Academy.
He advised parents to provide Western and Arabic education to their children, in order to shape and mold them against doctrines that would have bad influence in their lives.
The cleric urged parents to create time from their busy schedule to checkmate their children.
He urged government at all levels to implement policies and programmes aimed at ameliorating the suffering of the masses and create employment opportunities to keep youths out of criminalities, saying that an idle hand is a devil’s workshop.
In a remark, the Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, Dr. Kayode Omiyale implored Muslim faithful to use the period of Ramadan to pray for peaceful co-existence religious tolerance and mutual relationship among Nigerians, saying Ramadan provides opportunities for faithful to show love to the less privileged and downtrodden.
The General Manager of Bond FM, in her welcome address, Princess Adenike Adegoke said the annual Ramadan put together by Muslim Community of Bond FM and National Broadcast Academy has contributed immensely to proffering solution to topical issues in the society.
Adegoke said the topic for this year’s Ramadan Lecture, ‘Roles and Responsibilities of Parents in Achieving Peaceful Society’ is apt as it would remind parents to rise to their responsibility in ensuring peaceful society in the bud.
The Chairman of Muslim Community of Bond and NBA, Alhaji Bola Muibi implored clerics, traditional and religious leaders to support government in monitoring their community to nip the activities of criminals elements in the society.
“ People are under obligation to share intelligence information with security agents to arrest kidnapping for ransom and other forms of crimes in the society,” he noted.
